Uprooting the Little Things

Loyalty isn’t about grand gestures or obvious spiritual achievements—it’s about the heart. Second Chronicles 16:9 reminds us: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to him.”

The power of a loyal heart

The question isn’t who’s most gifted or flashy; it’s who has a heart fully devoted to God. King Asa in this verse leaned on the King of Syria, and his divided trust led to trouble. In our own lives, it’s easy to divide our hearts—sundays may be devoted, but the rest of the week can drift.

A loyal heart, sometimes called a “perfect heart” in Scripture, is one that seeks God fully. It isn’t about perfection in action but devotion in intention. That devotion opens the door for God to show Himself strong in our lives.

Catching the little foxes

Song of Solomon speaks of foxes in the vineyard—small, seemingly harmless creatures that can still cause damage if left unchecked. In our hearts, these are the little habits, thoughts, or distractions that pull us away from full devotion. Left to grow, they create weeds that can take deep root.

Prayer and fasting create space to examine our hearts, partnering with the Holy Spirit to bring awareness and conviction. This isn’t about shame, but about freedom. Just as a young weed is easier to uproot than a mature one, catching small disloyalties early allows God to cultivate a heart fully devoted to Him.
